What’s for dinner? It’s an easy question to answer when you are planned ahead. Let me help you answer this question for you and your family with a great tool for easy meal planning.
Working full time, I appreciate coming home and having my dinner plans in place. Of course, we sometimes need to have some flexibility, but taking time during the weekend to plan out the week ahead can make life easier, less stressful, and can save money.
I first like to go through the sale circular for my local market to see if some meals can be planned around the items that are on sale.
After identifying those items, I take a look at my family’s schedule for the week. Which days will I need slow-cooker meals, versus which days will I be home and have the time to make a meal?
Once I know what is on sale and what my family’s schedule looks like, I ask my family if they have any meal requests for the week. Then I check out my recipes, cookbooks, and Pinterest to get some meal ideas. One of my family’s favorites easy weeknight meals is this Oriental Pasta . This meal is easy, delicious, and on the table in 30 minutes.
Next I use this meal planning and shopping printable to help me get organized.
I list my chosen meals for Sunday through Saturday, indicating any evening when we might be going out to eat. I also like to post our menu plan for the week on the refrigerator.
Are there any special events this week? Do I need to bring snack for my child’s class or cupcakes for a co-worker’s birthday? I just jot down any special events that are going on during the week. By planning ahead, I (hopefully) avoid additional trips to the market.
Now, I am ready to make my shopping list. I look through my pantry and refrigerator to see what ingredients I have on hand and what I need to purchase to make these meals. Then I just add these items to my list.
I can finish up my shopping list by including any breakfast, lunch, and snack items that we need for the week.
Now I am ready to shop.
By having meals planned and sticking to my list, I can save both time and money. I hope you will too!
How do you plan your meals for the week? What are some of your tips? I would love to hear your thoughts!
